Scrape down is the action of using the blade of a spatula or pastry scraper and running all around the inner surface of the bowl to scoop ingredients/mixtures back to the bottom of the bowl with the rest of ingredients/mixtures. This is especially helpful in combining fat and liquid because the fat may stick to the sides, thus making it difficult to be mixed thoroughly with other ingredients.
