Peanuts in fact belong to legume family and mature underground. The veined brown shell or pod of the peanuts contains 2 or 3 peanut kernels. Each oval-shaped kernel is comprised of 2 off-white lobes that are covered in a brownish-red skin. Peanuts have a buttery and “nutty” taste. They are widely used in various dishes around the world and are usually eaten cooked. They can also be processed in a variety of forms, including butter, oil, flour, and flakes.
