Dusting

Dusting is a technique of using powdery substances such as flour, icing/powdered sugar, or other powders to lightly cover surface, pans or food. Flour is sprinkled over counter or surface before turning the dough in for kneading to prevent them from sticking. Similarly, baking pans can be covered with a dusting of flour (after being greased) for easier removal of baked goods later. Cakes, pastries or confections can be decorated by a light coat of icing/powdered sugar.
